Drift Fishing For Catfish

Drift fishing for catfish is the name of a popular catfishing technique that can be used for catching all species of catfish. Locating catfish with a fish finder, anchoring and catching them is considered by many to be most productive but drift fishing can be a very effective technique to use for many applications. This is also especially productive if you're not sure where to fish.

If you're not sure where to catfish then drift fishing is a great way to get started and once you determine what depth the fish are holding and what type of structure or cover they prefer during that time you can locate more water that is generally the same as the water you have been catching catfish in.

To get started drifting you need a good rod and reel spooled with monofilament fishing line. Twenty pound test line is a good place to get started. Setup your rod with a slip sinker rig, modified three way rig or a santee rig and make sure you use a good sharp hook on your catfish rig.
